I've been here a decade, and I've never seen or heard of a cyclist being cited. Doesn't mean it's never happened, of course, but my impression is that cyclists are given a much longer leash here than motorists.

First time for everything: I think Rob's gone overboard on this one. Granted, Mr. Ward sounds like an epic dirtbag, but piling on with allegations of malice seems a tad silly. Even dirtbags, I suspect, would prefer not to have a body on their conscience.

Way to completely miss the point of the cartoon – which attempts to draw attention to Americans being held all over the world, and entitled to some of the attention lavished upon the unfortunate women in Ohio. Kenneth Bae, for example, presently doing 15 years hard labor in North Korea because the whackos there don't like him. Alan Gross, in the early stages of a 15 year Cuban prison term for selling cell phones to Cuban Jews. Saeed Abedini, imprisoned in Iran for his Christian evangelism there.

Pricing, value, and service dictate my buying decisions. I find little "intrinsic value" in knowing the seller, and 'buying local' is never a priority. Proprietors 'pouring their hearts into products from champagne powder melt off'... That one had me rolling my eyes. If I like their product enough to pay what they're asking, I'll buy it. If not, I won't. It's no more complicated than that.

Only because we don't have to. James Madison (author of the 2nd amendment) makes explicitly clear in Federalist 46 his motives, intent, and rationale. Insisting that we "should not infer" is nothing more than an attempt to remove any discussion of the framers from the debate and dictate terms of the conversation to those with whom one disagrees.

When the Founding Fathers wrote the First Amendment, they were thinking about the moveable type printing press - not 24 hour cable & satellite television, radio, the internet, or even the telegraph in mind. If such implements of mass-dissemination had been in existence, the amendment might have been written differently, or not at all.
