Lucy Shimek isn’t new to lacrosse, and it showed in her first season at Steamboat Springs High School. As a freshman this spring, Shimek earned honorable mention all-state honors from the Colorado High School Activities Association for her play with the Sailors girls lacrosse team.

At one point, not long ago, Steamboat Springs High School senior Alexandra Tumminello didn’t believe the Sailors’ girls 4x800 relay team could qualify for the state track meet. She knew what the qualifying times were, and Steamboat simply wasn’t in that category.
The state track and field meet gets underway Thursday at Jefferson County Stadium in Lakewood.
For most of the spring track and field season, Soroco High School sophomore Mattie Rossi has owned Class 2A’s top spot in the girls’ 100-meter hurdles. Heading into this weeks’ state meet in Lakewood, however, she’ll have at least one person to look up to.
The Hayden High School track and field team also competed at the Joe Shields Invitational Thursday, the boys and girls both taking fourth, overall.
Soroco High School track and field coach David Bruner really likes where his team sits. This week, the Rams will travel to West Grand for their last-chance meet, although most of their athletes don't have anything to worry about in regards to state qualification.

For the first time in a handful of weeks, the Soroco High School track and field team did not break any school records when it competed Friday at the Clint Wells Invitational in Craig. In fact, nothing really stood out to Soroco coach David Bruner as being special. Even freshman Chloe Veilleux’s dominance in the mile and two-mile races was nothing surprising.
It’s a bad time to be a Soroco High School track and field school record. This season, the Rams have shown a penchant for breaking those records, including the destruction of two more Friday at the Coal Ridge Invitational.
