— Playing lacrosse in college isn’t out of the question for Steamboat Springs High School senior Jordan Gorr, but it will likely be secondary to playing hockey, should the opportunity arise.

This meant, when the Sailors’ boys lacrosse season ended in the first round of the state tournament earlier this month, Gorr’s career likely ended as well. Then came an email from Steamboat lacrosse coach Jay Lattimore telling Gorr not to put way the cleats quite yet.

“It crossed my mind at the end of the season,” Gorr said about his lacrosse career being finished. “Then, when I found out I got to play one more game, it was pretty exciting. Now, this could determine if I want to play college lacrosse or hockey.”

Gorr, with senior teammate Drew Williamson, was selected to the Class 4A all-state lacrosse team and asked to compete in Thursday’s all-star game, held at All-City Stadium in Denver. Both players were eligible for the all-state team after being selected all-conference alongside teammates Jackson Draper, also a senior, and sophomore Davis Petersen.

Coaches across the state voted on who made the all-star game roster, with Gorr and Williamson making the cut.

“All the guys are top players in Colorado in 4A this year. It will be fun playing alongside all those guys,” Williamson said. “It feels nice to be recognized, both of us, but I think it definitely shows the culture in which we were brought up in Steamboat.”

Williamson, who is first team all-state for offense, led the Sailors with 50 goals during the regular season, according to MaxPreps. Petersen was second on the team with 42.

Gorr made second team all-state as one of the Sailors’ top defensive players.

“It goes to show a lot of coaches respect their game,” Lattimore said. “There are a lot of players playing. To be selected by other coaches should be a great honor for these kids.”

Petersen and Draper were also named honorable mention all-state, while seniors Tait Dixson and Joe DeLine and junior Bryan Gilbertson were all named honorable mention all-conference.

Gorr, also a star defender for Steamboat’s varsity hockey team, is now headed to Fort Lewis College to study business. He will take part in the CCM Hockey Showcase in Denver over the weekend and hopes to make something out of one of the sports following high school.

Williamson will attend Colby College in Maine — his goal has always been to attend a private school on the East Coast — where he could possibly walk on to the Mules’ Division III lacrosse program.

“They definitely have the skills,” Lattimore said of Gorr and Williamson playing in college. “They can play anywhere at the DIII, DII level, and if they really wanted to devote themselves, they could be somewhere at the DI level.”
