— Steamboat Springs attorney Charles Feldmann recently went on the trip of a lifetime for a worthy cause.

Feldmann, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, visited with, inspired and passed along the message of never quitting to American troops serving in the Middle East.

“They’re focused on a mission and representing our country well at great personal cost,” Feldmann said.

Feldmann took the trip with the American300 Tours nonprofit group headed by Rob Powers, a former Steamboat resident now living in Grand Junction. The mission of American300 is to increase the resiliency of American troops. Other Steamboat residents who have gone on past trips include astronaut Steve Swanson and a number of Steamboat’s Olympians.

Feldmann said going on the trip was an opportunity he couldn’t pass up.

“Some of these kids are on their seventh, eighth tours,” Feldmann said.

Feldmann is familiar with the ups and downs that come with military service.

“His personal stories of perseverance and knowledge of the military legal system made for such a dynamic addition to our Service with Honor ‘Medals and Music Tour’ to Afghanistan,” Powers said.

During Feldman’s military career, a Marine sergeant executed an executive officer in broad daylight and shot another commanding officer in the chest.

As a Marine officer and judge advocate, it was Feldmann’s job to prosecute the high-profile case.

The successful conviction was to help shape Feldmann’s life. He wrote his first novel, Murder3Gun, based on actual events during his military career.
