Shooting woes slow Soroco boys

Joel Reichenberger

Not getting the shots has slowed the Soroco High School boys basketball team.

Rams coach Jake Eskridge said it’s the making of the shots, or the lack thereof, that led his team to a pair of losses this weekend.

Soroco fell Friday night on the road against Paonia, 56-47, then lost again Saturday at home against Hotchkiss, 52-41.

“We just have to be a little more efficient on offense,” he said. “We’re making a lot of mistakes right now. We have to go back to work next week.”

The Rams were in both games and trailed by five heading into the fourth quarter against Paonia. The Eagles got hot from deep, however, and pulled away.

Ryan Jeep scored 13 to lead the team. Bjorn Carlson had nine, while Chance Beaty and Storm Veilleux each had eight.

On Saturday, a 15-3 run by Hotchkiss to open the third quarter helped put the game away. The Rams tried but couldn’t dig out of that hole.

Jeep had 18 and Matt Regan added 11.

Soroco, 4-4, returns to action at home Wednesday against Vail Christian.
