Steamboat Springs Suddenly, the Hayden High School boys basketball team has become one of the favorites in the Class 2A Western Slope League.
With the addition of guard Paul Laliberte, the Tigers are battling Vail Christian and Meeker for the top spot.
But before that can sort itself out, Hayden (6-5, 2-1) welcomes cross-county rival Soroco (4-4, 2-2) for an 8:30 p.m. game Friday in Hayden.
At least from the outside, it appears Hayden might have the advantage. The Rams have lost four straight after a 4-0 start.
“I wouldn’t say we’ve been struggling,” Soroco coach Sam McLeod said. “We’re playing better basketball than we were. We just have to take care of and shoot the ball well. Defensively, we need to try and negate their athleticism.”
