— Charlotte Fleming knows nothing about the game of golf, but if her mom has anything to say about it she will spend plenty of time on the course.

“She was born on July 7, 2011, and weighed 7 pounds, 7 ounces,” her mom, Laura Sehnert said. “She’s my good luck charm and I hope to take her along for every round of golf.”

Charlotte has not made her first trip to Las Vegas, but she has been a regular at the Steamboat Golf Club, and her presence has been lucky for her mom, who netted her first hole-in-one Monday on the No. 3 hole at the course west of Steamboat Springs.

“I used a 7 iron and it bounced right in front of the green,” Sehnert said. “We watched it as it start rolling toward the hole and kept thinking it might go in, it might go in.”

In the three weeks since she was born, her mom says Charlotte has accompanied Sehnert and dad A.J. Fleming on four rounds of golf. Sehnert says Charlotte rides along in a car seat in the golf cart.

“She’s a pretty darn good baby,” she said.

Sehnert plays golf about once a week, and plans to continue as long as Charlotte is content with riding in the cart.

Judge sinks ace on links

James Garrecht has seen a lot of things in his more that 20 years as a judge in Routt County.

But he might be hard-pressed to top the experience he had at the Steamboat Golf Club while playing a round with friends a few weeks ago.

Garrecht netted his first hole-in-one July 17 on the No. 8 hole while playing a round with Ken Brenner and Marty Lamansky.

“It took me 42 years to get there,” Garrecht said.

He used a 3 iron on the 165-yard hole and said he was able to watch the ball the entire way. He said he knew it was a good shot while it was in the air and was hoping that it would roll close to the hole.

“I was 99 percent sure that the ball went into the hole,” Garrecht said. “But I didn’t know for sure until I walked on to the green to see where the ball was.”

Garrecht is a regular at the nine-hole course west of Steamboat Springs.
