Age: 58

Occupation: Deputy city manager, city of Steamboat Springs

Place of birth: Washington State

Q. When did you move to Routt County, and what brought you here?

A. 1976. Skiing and living in a ski resort.

Q. Has a book ever changed your life? What was it and why?

A. Ayn Rand’s “Atlas Shrugged.” The heroine, Dagny Taggart, was a strong woman executive working in a role generally held by a man. She successfully struggled against a society that was hostile to personal achievement, innovation and individual rights.

Q. What three things would you want people to know about you?

A. 1. I love Steamboat Springs. 2. I am passionate about the sport of skiing. 3. I want to travel around the world and live in at least five foreign countries for at least one year in each country.

Q. What did you want to be when you grew up?

A. I wanted to be a world traveler, an ambassador in the Foreign Service and speak many foreign languages.

Q. If you could invite any four people to dinner, who would they be and what would you talk about?

A. Alan Greenspan, Nelson Mandela, Republic of Ireland President Mary McAleese and Albert Einstein (I know he’s dead). We would discuss current world affairs, particularly the global economy and global warming.

Q. In the Meatloaf song, “I’d do anything for love, but I won’t do that,” what is that?

A. I would not do anything illegal, unethical or physically harmful to another.

Q. What was your first job?

A. At age 11, I picked strawberries all summer to earn enough money to buy my first pair of “good” skis (Head Masters).

Q. Who is your favorite superhero? Why?

A. Wolverine, because he is basically indestructible and not a “goody-goody.”

Q. If you could go back in time, to what event or time period would you go?

A. End of the Revolutionary War (1782). I would like to see the United States’ Founding Fathers in action.
