River Road facing periodic closures
Portions of River Road north of the Mount Werner Road intersection will be closed periodically during the next few weeks as crews work to repair an area that was damaged in a mudslide Thursday.
Routt County Road and Bridge Director Paul Draper said crews are working to stabilize a ditch that isn't draining properly.
"The road's OK, but we have to keep that ditch open so we don't jeopardize our road," he said Monday.
Officials said in upcoming weeks, ongoing repairs could close the road for portions of a day or even entire days. There will not be a detour, and traffic will not be permitted to pass through the road closure.
Draper said there is signage and cones alerting drivers to the closure.
"People don't believe it," he said. "We're being diligent about putting up and taking down signs, but when those signs are up the road is really closed."
Thursday's mudslide flooded a portion of River Road near the Tree Haus subdivision with massive amounts of dirt, trees and boulders.
The affected area is approximately three-tenths of a mile north of the River and Mount Werner roads intersection.
Fall bus schedule begins; winter drivers sought
Steamboat Springs Transit's fall bus and regional shuttle schedules began Sunday. Transportation Director George Krawzoff said daytime service will remain virtually the same.
"The major change will be to evening service, which will be less frequent," Krawzoff said.
The transportation department is beginning to advertise for its winter season driving crew. Krawzoff said 40 drivers are needed. The job's starting wage is $15.03 an hour.
