Steamboat Springs Opening a golf shop in Steamboat Springs was a no-brainer for Blake Stansbery.
The Arkansas native knows golf has long had a place in the Steamboat Springs community, but he identified a lack of shops dedicated to the game. Stansbery researched the local market before opening Golf Etc. in Central Park Plaza. The store is between Qdoba Mexican Grill and Village Inn restaurant.
"Since there's never been a local fitter, and everybody needs to be custom fit in golf, and there wasn't a golf store, we saw this as a perfect opportunity," Stansbery said. "So far, sales are a lot further along than what we expected."
The shop features more than 3,500 square feet of space - enough room to provide merchandise and services for golfers of all abilities.
Stansbery, who has numerous certifications in club building, said what sets Golf Etc. apart is its club fitting service.
Along with fitting players' irons and woods, Stansbery said he can fit players of all levels for golf balls and putters as well.
Players can be fit for new clubs or have their current clubs better fit to their swings, Stansbery said.
He also offers regripping and a variety of golf apparel, clubs and balls.
Stansbery emphasized that the entire club fitting, repair and regripping process takes place on site.
"Every golfer will see a benefit from fitting," Stansbery said, "from high to low handicappers. The biggest improvement right away is the high handicapper : it will be like night and day, performance-wise."
Golf Etc. has teaching facility accreditation from the Professional Golf Association. The store also features winter golf packages and used clubs, and buys and trades clubs as well.
