Allison's picks for June 9

Tonight
¤ Spouting Off! art show and meet the artists reception
When: 5 to 7 p.m.
Where: Studio Gallery 27 in Ski Time Square
Cost: Free
Why you should go: To see all the imaginative ways clay artists interpreted the "Spouting Off!" theme. And you get to meet them.

¤ The Unknown Americans
When: 9:30 p.m.
Where: The Old Town Pub
Cost: Free
Why you should go: Because I went to see them last time they were here, and they were awesome.

Saturday
¤ Crazy River Dog contest
When: 1 p.m.
Where: 13th Street Bridge
Cost: $5 if your dog is a contestant, free to onlookers
Why you should go: Because it is one of the coolest things to see in Steamboat. Dogs are timed as they fetch sticks thrown past a buoy, and if they don't swim fast enough, they go through the D-hole. It's nonstop excitement!

¤ The Plagiarists
When: 2:30 p.m.
Where: Top of the gondola
Cost: Free with 2005-06 season ski pass; or $5 for the gondola ride
Why you should go: What better way to spend a summer afternoon than at the top of the gondola listening to good music and watching bikers compete in the Rio 24 Hours of Steamboat race?

¤ The Melodians
When: 10 p.m.
Where: Mahogany Ridge Brewery and Grill
Cost: $10
Why you should go: Because the lead singer hung out with Bob Marley when they were growing up together in Jamaica, and The Melodians have been playing authentic reggae for 43 years.
