Former Steamboat Springs resident Elizabeth L. (Betty) Wright More passed away Feb. 10, 2006, at the home of her daughter, Teresa Pollard, in Silt. She was 79.
Betty was born Dec. 12, 1926, in Morapos, a farming community near Hamilton, to Howard and Hildur Wright. She attended elementary school at the country school at Morapos before the family moved to Craig. Betty graduated from Moffat County High School in 1945. She married James Thompson of Steamboat Springs on Aug. 30, 1945, in Meeker. To this union seven children were born.
Betty was a homemaker and active in Fun Club, Little Toots, Brownies and Cub Scouts -- all involvements around her children.
On Nov. 2, 1971, Betty married C.W. (Buster) More in Craig. They ranched in the Twenty-Mile area west of Steamboat until 1978 when they retired and moved to Grand Junction. Betty was a member of the Clifton Christian Church. In 2000, they moved to Rifle.
Betty is survived by daughters, Jean (Jim) Snyder of Silt, Luanna (Wayne) Iacovetto of Steamboat, Teresa (Wayne) Pollard of Silt and Nancy McAnally of Silt; sons, Harry Thompson of Steamboat Springs and Todd (Donne) Thompson of Steamboat; sisters, Dorothy Newsom of California and Ruth Seick of Craig; brother, Robert Wright of Grand Junction; four stepchildren; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; infant daughter, Patricia; brothers, Richard and Howard Wright Jr.; sister Grace Lemmon and son-in-law Gene McAnally.
Pastor Roger Ferguson of the Clifton Church officiated the services at the Rocky Mountain Baptist Church in Rifle on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2006.
Memorials can be made to a charity of your choice in Betty More's name.
