Annual downtown sales on Labor Day weekend

Main Street Steamboat Springs will host the annual downtown sidewalk sales on Labor Day weekend. The sales usually are during the third week in August. The sales will be held, rain or shine, Sept. 2 to 5.

A Wild West Show Arrival Parade is at 11 a.m. Sept. 3 in downtown Steamboat and will feature more than 100 horses. The Buffalo Bill Band will perform outside F.M. Light & Sons before and after the parade.

Longtime Forest Service employee Effinger retires

Longtime U.S. Forest Service surveyor Tom Effinger retired July 2 after 30 years on the job. Friends, acquaintances and colleagues are planning to roast a pig in his honor.

Everyone who knows Effinger is invited to attend the party in Effinger's honor at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Gary Gray residence, 48 Maple St. A roasted pig and beer will be provided. Guests are encouraged to bring a side dish.

At the time of his retirement, Effinger was the supervisory zone land surveyor for the Medicine Bow, Routt, Big Horn and Shoshone national forests in Colorado and Wyoming.

Northwest Ballet fall dance registration nears

Dance class registration for children and adults is from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday and from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Northwest Ballet Studio, 326 Oak St. All levels of classes in pre-ballet, ballet, hip-hop, Irish step, point, and ballet turn workshop are offered. Call 871-1880.
