Sen. Salazar to come to Steamboat on Monday

U.S. Sen. Ken Salazar will be in Steamboat Springs on Monday as part of his tour of Colorado counties to discuss energy independence. The senator will be at Centennial Hall, 1024 10th St., at 1 p.m. He will be at Craig's Shadow Mountain Center at 3 p.m.

The goal of Salazar's tour is to talk with and solicit views from Coloradans about energy and alternative sources of energy, such as solar energy, wind energy and biodiesel. Salazar also will share his views about the effect the recently passed federal energy bill will have on Colorado communities. He plans to outline the steps he thinks are needed to reduce the United States' dependence on foreign oil and to improve national security.

Arts Council presents studio tour Aug. 20

The Steamboat Springs Arts Council presents the North Routt County Artists' Studio Tour from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 20. The self-guided tour will feature 15 artists at nine North Routt studio locations, from Elk River Road to Clark. Tickets are available at the Depot Art Center for $20 in advance and $25 on the day of the event. A continental breakfast is included in the ticket price, and various restaurants along the tour route will offer lunch specials to tour participants. Call 879-9008.

Youth flag, tackle football registration under way

Registration is under way for third- and fourth-grade flag football and fifth- and sixth-grade tackle football. The programs, sponsored by the city parks department, run from Aug. 29 through mid-October. Flag football is $45, and tackle football is $65. Call 879-4300. Volunteer coaches also are needed for the program. Interested volunteers must attend a mandatory meeting at 6 p.m. Aug. 23 at the Steamboat Springs Parks and Recreational Services Office.

Discounted ride tickets available for county fair

Discounted ride tickets are available for the Routt County Fair, Wednesday to Aug. 21. Residents can save 10 percent by purchasing tickets by Sunday. Tickets are available at the Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall office in Hayden and the Cooperative Extension Office in Steamboat. Call 276-3068.
