I am deeply disappointed to read that the Educational Fund Board is willing to grant money for the North Routt Community Charter School while still refusing to consider funding requests from Soutt Routt or Hayden.
The voters of Steamboat Springs, when approving the sales tax increase within city limits, did not contemplate this situation. Maybe the voters intended the money to be used only for the schools in the Steamboat city limits. Maybe the voters thought that because Steamboat is the shopping base for Routt County that some money could be given to schools outside of Steamboat city limits.
It is a lie to argue that Steamboat city voters intended to help support a school in North Routt and intended to refuse to consider grant requests from South or West Routt school districts.
What are we, as Steamboat residents, supposed to say when we see friends currently living south or west of city limits while shopping? "Thank you for helping fund my child's education. Just don't expect me to do the same for you."
