Weather service seeks

volunteer observer

The National Weather Service is looking for a volunteer weather observer to take and record daily weather readings in Steamboat Springs; specifically, in the area to the northeast of U.S. Highway 40 at an elevation about 6,770 feet.

The volunteer will be supplied with a digital thermometer to record high and low temperatures, and a rain gauge to record rain. Snow measurements also are needed. The observations will continue the official records that began in 1891.

Medical group offers physicals to students

High school and middle school students can have their sports physicals for the 2004-05 school year done at a cost of $20 at Steamboat Medical Group. Appointments, which can be made by calling Kate Parke at the high school at 871-3687, are available from 4 to 8 p.m. today through Thursday. All proceeds will benefit the Steamboat Springs Booster Club.

Golf-a-Thon scheduled

for Tuesday at Sheraton

The Steamboat Springs Booster Club's annual Golf-a-Thon will be held Tuesday at the Sheraton Golf Club. All proceeds benefit high school and middle school sports and speech programs. Capacity-building grants are due by May 28

Applications for Routt County Museum and Heritage Fund capacity-building grant funds are due in the Routt County Board of County Commissioners' Office in the Courthouse Annex on May 28. Qualified projects must relate to historic preservation and must be sponsored and administered by a qualified museum entity within your district. The approved museum entities are the town of Yampa, Oak Creek and Phippsburg Historical Society, Tread of Pioneers Museum, Hahn's Peak Historical Society, Historic Routt County and the Hayden Heritage Center. Applications are evaluated on a set of standardized criteria available through the museum entities and specified in the application packet. Yampa River Basin Water Forum set for June 3

The Yampa River Basin Water Forum is from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. June 3 in the Hayden High School auditorium, sponsored by The Nature Conservancy, Community Agriculture Alliance, Colorado River Water Conservation District and Yampa River Basin Partnership. The registration fee is $15 and includes dinner. RSVP to 879-4370.
