A 46-year-old man appeared in Routt County Court today on charges that he, as a person in a position of trust, sexually assaulted a child.
The Steamboat Springs Police Department issued a warrant for the man's arrest Nov. 26 after a girl reported the case to officials at a Steamboat school. To protect the child's identity, Detective Ross Kelly did not divulge the nature of the sexual assault or the age of the victim.
Police had been looking for the suspect since November, Kelly said.
On Feb. 15, the man was stopped for a traffic violation in Galveston, Texas. When the Galveston County Sheriff's Office stopped him, the deputy discovered the man was wanted in Steamboat Springs on sexual assault charges, Kelly said.
The man arrived to the Routt County Jail early Tuesday morning, where he is being held on $100,000 bond.
On Wednesday, Routt County Judge James Garrecht continued the man's case to 1 p.m. Tuesday so the man could find an attorney.
