Q: When did you move to Routt County and what brought you here?

A: We moved here in the summer of 1996. It was an escape from Denver to "the mountains." My wife and I wanted to live in the mountains and have a good school for our kids.

Q: What's the biggest risk you've taken recently?

A: Running for Steamboat Springs School Board in the November election.

Q: Describe your morning routine.

A: Coffee, "Today" show, work.

Q: Have you ever had a book change your life? What was it and why?

A: "The Whole Earth Catalogue." I discovered a whole world that was thinking anti-establishment.

Q: What's the best piece of advice you've ever been given?

A: If you play with dirt, you have to expect to get some under your fingernails.

Q: When you meet someone new, what are the first three things you tell them about yourself?

A: Each person that I meet has different interests, and what I tell them about me is usually some story of my past that connects with what they are talking to me about.

Q: When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A: Veterinarian.

Q: What kind of music did you listen to in high school? What kind of music do you listen to now?

A: Then: The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Grateful Dead, Simon & Garfunkel. Now: The same, but I've added blues, jazz and flamenco.

Q: If you could invite any four people over for dinner, who would they be, what would you serve and what would you talk about?

A: Albert Einstein, Joseph Campbell, Muhammad Ali and Jerry Garcia. I would serve spaghetti with shrimp and calamari. I would let them do all the talking.

Q: In the Meatloaf song, "I'll do anything for love, but I won't do that ." What is "that"?

A: Eat pork.

Q: Do you collect anything?

A: Small models of famous buildings. The kind people sell at tourist shops.

Q: What is your first memory?

A: Our house on 29th and Hudson in Denver when I was 2. My dad mowed the lawn with a push mower.
