SUV rolls on Highway 40

A one-vehicle, noninjury rollover accident occurred Saturday morning on U.S. Highway 40 near milepost 142.

At about 11:15 a.m., Brian Lee Close was driving his 2001 Mitsubishi Montero westbound on U.S. 40. Close, 31 of Plattsburg, Mont., drove off the left side of the road leaving a 20-foot speed scuff on the left shoulder of the road before leaving the pavement, the Colorado State Patrol reported.

The vehicle then traveled another 152 feet, where it struck a rock and an embankment and rolled one-half time. The vehicle came to rest on its roof and against several trees off the left side of the road, the state patrol reported.

Close was not wearing a seat belt, but did not sustain any injuries He had no passengers in the car.

The state patrol did not indicate what caused the accident and no charges have been filed.

Alcohol was not believed to have been involved.

The state patrol, Routt County Sheriff's Office and Steamboat Springs Fire and Rescue responded to the accident.
