'Handling the holidays'

to hold fall book fair
Soda Creek Elementary School will hold a fall book fair Nov. 3-8. Hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, 8:30 a.m to 3:30 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Call 871-3390.
Blue Fest fund-raiser
is Nov. 8 at Colorado Bar
Blue Fest, a fund-raiser for Blue Halterman, an Oak Creek man with an inoperable brain tumor, will take place from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m. Nov. 8 at Colorado Bar and Grill. Funds raised through the event will go to Halterman's medical expenses.
The festival will feature a buffet dinner, cash bar, live music, a raffle and silent auction, and a birthday celebration for Halterman at midnight. Alpine Taxi will provide a shuttle service between Steamboat Springs and Oak Creek.
Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door. Advance tickets can be purchased at All That Jazz, Oak Creek Town Hall and the Colorado Bar and Grill.

CMC offers ESL classes Tuesday through Thursday
English language learners of all levels and native languages are invited to enroll in ESL classes at Colorado Mountain College. Classes are offered from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesdays in Willett Hall, Room 300. Register today by calling 870-4534.
Over-the-Hill Gang has scholarships available
Steamboat's Over-the-Hill Gang is once again offering scholarships of up to $1,000 to local athletes for their education and/or skill improvement in their area of competence. Only athletes involved in winter sports are eligible.
Applicants should be attending or be a graduate of a Routt County school or be a Routt County resident. Applications are available at all Routt County high schools, Whiteman and Christian Heritage schools, Colorado Mountain College and the Winter Sports Club. Health and Rec offering one free swim session
The Steamboat Springs Health and Recreation Center is offering patrons one free session of swimming tips from the swim team coaching staff. The free sessions will take place from 4 to 5:15 p.m. Mondays and Fridays in October. Swimmers must be able to swim laps continuously. Each additional session is $5 per swimmer. needs props, costumes
The Steamboat Springs High School drama department needs props and costumes for its current and future productions. The school will put on "The Sound of Music" in November and needs period clothing and shoes, black graduation gowns, prom dresses, rosaries, costume jewelry and wigs.
