Heeling Friends recruiting for pet visitation program
Heeling Friends, Yampa Valley Medical Center's pet visitation program, will hold a fall recruitment drive for new dog-handler teams from 6 to 8 p.m. today and Wednesday at the Steamboat Springs Community Center. Pre-registration is required. Call 871-0021.
Smalley to be inducted into Ski Hall of Fame
Park Smalley of Steamboat Springs is among five individuals who will be inducted into the Colorado Ski Museum-Colorado Ski Hall of Fame during ceremonies Oct. 18.
Smalley is a freestyle skiing pioneer. He was the first coach of the U.S. Olympic freestyle skiing team and developed freestyle programs for youths. He helped bring hundreds of freestyle competitions to Colorado and was the catalyst for the construction of freestyle aerial hills at Howelsen Hill.
Inductees joining Smalley include snowboarder Kevin Delaney; the late Max Merolt; Winter Park Coach Frank Penney; and Morrie Shepard.
The induction ceremonies begin with a silent auction at 5:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 7 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Denver. Tickets are $100 for museum members and $125 for nonmembers.
Auditions for 'Messiah'
are to be held Oct. 21
Solo auditions for the Dec. 14 performance of "Messiah" will be Oct. 21 at St. Paul's Episcopal Chapel at the corner of Ninth and Oak streets.
The auditions are from 5 to 7 p.m. Those who wish to audition or have questions should call Dr. Robert Ritschel at 870-4414 to arrange a time. An accompanist will be provided, though soloists may bring their own if they prefer.
Library's Halloween party is free on Oct. 18
Bud Werner Library's annual Halloween party is from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Community Center next door to the library. Children can wear their costumes and enjoy tricky treats, creepy crafts, spooky music and ghoulish games. Admission is free. Volunteers are needed, too. Call 879-0240.
