HONORS, ACCOLADES

STEAMBOAT SPRINGSBenjamin Stigler, a 2001 graduate of Steamboat Springs High School, was awarded the 2000-2001 Community Contribution Scholarship from the Educational Research Center, Inc. Stigler was one of 25 recipients of the scholarship, which is awarded to students who have made a difference in their community. The award is a $1,000 grant for college-related expenses.

Through his work with Assets for Routt County, Stigler qualified for the award. Stigler helped Assets gain funding for Emerald City, a recreation center that allows teenagers a safe and affordable destination for weekend nights. Stigler has also helped a local grade school secure a grant for a drug prevention program.

A University of Colorado student, Stigler was one of thousands of student nationwide to apply for the grant and the only winner in Colorado.

Meredith Geldmeir, a Christian Heritage senior, has been named a Commended Student in the 2002 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Lacey Dodge, a Lowell Whiteman senior boarding student from Bozeman, Mont., has also been named a Commended Student in the 2002 National Merit Scholarship Program..

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation recognized an estimated 34,000 Commended Students throughout the United States. These students placed among the top five percent of the more than one million students.
