Steamboat Springs The men of the Steamboat Springs Golf Club will have bragging rights at least this year.
Last weekend, 16 local golfers represented Steamboat in the annual Yampa Cup Match at the Steamboat Golf Club.
The Ryder Cup style tournament pitted 16 local golfers against their counterparts from Craig in a match play event where golfers earn points for winning holes.
On the first day, the Steamboat team took a commanding 10-6 lead.
The teams competed in four matches using a best-ball format and four other golfers competed in an alternate-shot format.
Golfer Walt Taylor said players earned double points for winning on that day.
After Sunday's round was complete, the Steamboat golfers had earned a 17-7 victory. All of the points in that round were earned in a best-ball format.
It was the eighth year the event has been held, according to golfer Jim Denton.
The series, which has gone back and fourth between the Steamboat and Yampa Valley golf clubs, is now even at four wins for Steamboat and four wins for Craig.
Denton said the tournament might be changed slightly next year with one portion of the event taking place in Craig and another one here in Steamboat.
"I think everyone who played in this year's tournament had a good time," Denton said.
"We had good weather and I think the guys who came up from Craig really enjoyed themselves," he said.
The tournament has become an annual fall tradition between the two clubs.
Denton said he is looking forward to next year's rubber match.
But until then, the traveling trophy which has been passed back and fourth with Craig will be on display at the Steamboat Golf Club.
