EASTERN STAR GROUP RESUMES MEETINGS
YAMPAThe Edith Chapter No. 61 Order of the Eastern Star has resumed its meetings in Yampa after nearly two years since its last meeting. Low membership forced the group to fold in October 1999.
New officers were installed, and six new members were initiated on Aug. 21. The chapter's membership includes all of South Routt County and parts of Eagle and Grand counties.
Both men and women can belong to the Order of the Eastern Star, which remains the world's largest fraternal organization.
Anyone interested in joining the chapter should contact Helen Rudeen at 638-4551 or Tom Yackey at 638-4547.
BUSINESS VENTURE SEEKS TO EXPAND
YAMPAContact information for Angie Hess was left out of last week's South Routt feature.
Hess, who is looking to expand her horse and carriage venture, can be reached at
638-4696. She offers carriage rides in and around Yampa, as well as anywhere in the state.
SCHOOLS PREPARE FOR FIRST DAY BACK
OAK CREEKSoroco School District faculty on Thursday crowded into the high school band room, playfully raised plastic cups filled with sparkling cider and grape juice and toasted to the new school year.
"Let's remember our accomplishments but also look forward to what lies ahead," Yampa Elementary School Principal Troy Zabel said.
A $9 million improvement project on the Oak Creek campus and elementary school pushed the start of school to Monday.
